Tablet PCs and the Next Gen Learning

The powers of some of the education applications of Tablet PC's are amazing. The modern style of education and learning, has the potential of being revolutionized by the concept of a virtual classroom, in which tablet pcs obviously play an integrate role. However, when we often say that Tablet PC's are cool and stuff like that, it is not only the hardware and the digital stylus techniques that we are fascinated by, but instead its the application softwares that these tablets use.

This is where I would like to mention Heurisitix Lab Pte. Ltd, or Heulab! They are a microsoft premier partnered ISV specializing in developing applications for the education indusrty that employ the powers of a Tablet PC and integrate the concepts of a virtual classroom.

Somethe st of their software tools are indeed praise worthy and give a totally new dimension to the modern student's learning and teacher's teaching style. Education is an integral part of the current global society, and a necessary tool in its survival and growth.

I won't be wrong in saying that today Education is not confined to simply passing on the formula's in Chemistry and the principles in Physics, but it is now the process of equiping an individual and preparing him/her to embark on a self and learning journey.

Which means making the student independent, interactive and cultivating in him or her the ability to continously learn and adapt to the rapidly changing technologies and ways of life in the modern global village!

A Virtual Classroom/ Tablet PC education does that!

Adopting Tablet PCs and their related Education applications is an important step for present education institutions to take to truly educate their students in all perceptives and prepare them for the outer world!

Its high time that schools and other such institutions became more receptive to these changes because they not only are the modern mode of education but they are chance for the students to be exposed to new technologies and gain the ability to adapt, change and move with their surrounding.

How would you address the needs of the students in urban schools, with teachers who do not embrace technolgoy or with administrators who do not embrace technology. For example, Hamilton has Pentium II machines in the classroom. When the school purchased Tablet PCs they went to School Directors and not to the classroom. What do you think?

Well Yes, thats a major issue that the modern society has always struggled with, adoption of change.
Well in the point that LPH has raised, the teachers and administration not embarcing technology and buying tablet PCs but not giving them to students and instead to the directors, are two different issues.
To address the first one, where the school does not embrace new technology.
Well that has always been a long issue, when ever any new innovative technology has come out. There are many reasons why schools may not embrace the technology, and in such cases it is important to first find out the reasons and then try solving them to make more easier for the school to take their step. For instance, very often the case is the school teachers and administration may not embrace the technology because they themselves may not have sufficient knowledge about it. This is when IT consultancies come into the picture.
It is important for technology dealers to realize that their prime motive is not only to sell their product but aquint their customers to the new technology and help them make full use it.
Heulab for instance does not just focus on selling its software applications, but runs numerous training programs and consultancy projects for its customer schools and other similar institutions to act as a integral support in their entire journey through planning, adopting, executing and using the company's products.

Now, focusing on the second issue brought up. Where the school purchased Tablet PCs but they went to the directors instead of the students.
Well in this case, my only thought and advice would be that the school should quickly realize that the prime purpose of Education institutions is to equip its students with all the best available tools to help them in their journey, which is ultimately the future of human civilization!
