Not aware that the Microsoft
TabletPC Input Panel (TIP)
Leak Fix wouldn't (and wasn't intended to) resolve my problems with
running out of ink and spontaneous TIP closing, I applied the patch. Since then, my
TPC
has been rather sluggish, especially coming out of and after standby
mode. I used to be able to come out of standby, log in (with
FrontMotion Login) and get on wireless and
VPN in about 40 seconds (yes, I know an
iBook
is faster, but it is no Tablet!), but now it takes minutes just to log
in. I uninstalled the TIP Fix, but performance is no better, so
the new sluggishness could be coincidental; after all, I cannot claim
that the fixpack was the only change to my system around that
time.
The reason I posted, though is that my Writing Pad disappeared from the
TIP after a reboot (I wonder if this is why Microsoft said to only
install the TIP Fix if you have the problem they intended to
resolve). I had the Character Pad and the On-Screen Keyboard, but
the Writing Pad was a blank slate (no pun really intended).
Fortunately, I had
RitePen (because I'm still ticked off about Microsoft removing
Write Anywhere)
to tide me over until the next reboot, which is when the Writing Pad
re-appeared. Although others have reported problems with certain
portions of the TIP being missing, I hadn't seen this before, so I'm
not so willing to consider this a coincidence.
