Well, no Apple tablet; guess I don't have to worry about that. Let's see, did Steve mention anything else? Oh, that Intel thing... I guess my speculation was a little off (mark it up to wishful thinking). So what difference does it make? Actually, not much, other than I won't be getting a dual-G5 in the next year, so I'll probably go a little higher-end on my tablet. And since Apple won't
allow Mac OS X to run on a non-Apple Intel box, positioning for that possibility is not a major consideration. (This is really a curious decision on Apple's part -- perhaps they just don't want to compete directly with Microsoft... yet? How hard are they going to make this? How long's it going to take the hackers to figure out? Once they do, will it be something Apple doesn't
officially support, but is happy to let prosper? How this bit plays out will be interesting watch.)
Overall, I think the transition is a smart one, and Apple's put in place a pretty low impact way to do it. I actually think the timeline may be too long -- we're talking about two years before we see a high-end Intel Mac.
So, back to finding the right tablet...
