A Mac User's Foray into TabletPCs...

An Apple Ultraportable? Let the speculation begin...

So, AppleInsider is rumoring an Apple UltraPortable by MacWorld in January. Wouldn't that be interesting? A bit surprising, given Steve Jobs' outright rejection of a PDA from Apple in the past (guess that was a good decision, after all), and the current lukewarm reception for Microsoft's "Origami" ultraportables.

There is no need to worry.  Apple will never be able to get the cost per unit anywhere close to the proposed UMPC/Origami spec.  Heck, no one else has, why expect Apple to be able to do it.

Anyone willing to speculate on the price of an Apple UMPC? LOL

Well, they can do an iMac for $899. With a 17" screen, CD-RW/DVD and an iSight, among other stuff. Seems to me that's about $100 more than a UMPC.
