TD on Tablet PC

Tales, trials and tribulations of integrating the Tablet PC into a multi-business environment from someone who does not work for Microsoft.

Portrait-view friendly templates

Example of template that doesn't work in portrait mode

I haven't tried all the canned templates yet, but it would certainly be nice if in the template titles in the dropdown menu would indicate dimensions or -- better yet: portrait-friendly. At least 95% of the time I use the Tablet in portrait mode.

I also noticed that there is a delay to reach the front page of like a couple minutes ... not sure if this is intentional (moderated front page?) or not. Some of the times are showing -x minutes, which isn't right either (-43 minutes?). I should probably be posting this kind of site feedback in the forums instead of this blog, since with any new venture there are kinks to work out, however I see these type of design considerations for tablet pc portrait view users missed too often. I'm sure all these type things will be resolved as the Heiny's are nice, smart folks, but for anybody else reading this if you are designing a Tablet PC site, please try and remember that not all tablet users work in landscape orientation. Some are very ardent portrait mode users.

One last comment here: what's the point of having a Galleries/Photos tab if user's don't have permission to actually use it? Might want to hide that unless we are going to be able to add photos/galleries. I added the screenshot using the Snipping Tool 2.0 above hotlinked from one of our domains.

Scott from CommunityServer has been helping me this morning. The Marvin2 skins seem to allow comment posting in CS 1.1 whereas some of the others do not.

Layne - what's the story with the gallery/photos? Is that not going to be available for use? I checked out the demo of that on the Community Server site and it looks pretty cool. If it's not going to be available for use, then maybe that tab should be hidden/removed. Just a thought.

If you need beta testers next time before going public on stuff like this, feel free to drop me a line.

Take care :)
