TD on Tablet PC

Tales, trials and tribulations of integrating the Tablet PC into a multi-business environment from someone who does not work for Microsoft.

Comments ... anyone?

It's tough getting comments at blogs sometimes. I asked for help with ideas for places to store (additional) digital pens on Wednesday and so far all I've heard are crickets chirping. Am I the only Tablet user here at tabletpcblogs.com who has come across this no-place-to-put-your-pen situation? (please no crude suggestions LOL).

Maybe we should try and get some tabletpcblogs.com link love going between each other? I visit and read almost every blog entry that is coming through the Tablet PC River of News stream and if I have something to add to the conversation I click the comments and use them. If I'm really, really inspired then I'll blog it here or elsewhere.

Here's just a few posts I've found interesting that have been blogged by others recently:

  • Bill eloquently describes how old habits die hard. It took some work for me to put down the legal pads. Now I run with the Tablet PC beside my desk and OneNote opened to a contact tab so that I can make notes of phone conversations quickly and easily.
  • kcar describes the effort he (?) had to go through to get the Powers That Be to expense a Tablet PC for use. Ahh, those political challenges. He plans to blog later and tell us why he went with an Acer
  • state_tablet writes: "...help me, give me input, after all I am but a government drone, doing the job, trying to save taxpayer dollars and give the users quality tools. "
  • fyiguy wonders: "I have been wondering if it is possible to add the XP superset 'Inking' capabilities to the unit without doing a fresh install ..."

What do you find interesting that other Tableteers are talking about?

Thanks for posting this TD as it gives me an opportunity to ask a couple of questions. I'm a rookie blogger and seeing some of the things you've done I wondered how you were doing them. For example, your comment about my post (Thanks although I think eloquently is overkill in my case :) ) is partially represented on my blog and then clicking on your signature took me to this entry. I've heard the term trackback, is this what you used and if so how did you do it?

I've had several people make comments about several of my entries and I've responded to their questions, but I wondered how to find a way to respond so it was on their blog with a link back to their question and my original article. I'd like to see more interaction among ourselves as well.

Hi bleeman - flowery prose gets you everywhere, I learned that in english classes a long time ago LOL.

Yes, that's a trackback and trackbacks are automatic with this software, so there really isn't anything special or extra you have to do.

Here's how to do it: if you just make a hyperlink to any blog entry then the software will do the trackback for you. So when I made a hyperlink to your blog entry it sent over a link to you. To find the blog entry (this is also called a "permalink") just look in the address bar of Internet Explorer. This will also work when you link to bloggers outside of tabletpcblogs.com and will automatically send a trackback. If that blog accepts trackbacks then a link should show up in their trackback/comment area.

There are really two different ways to comment. One is to simply use the "post a comment" section and the second one is to reply by making a new blog entry in your tabletpcblogs.com entry and then link to the page of the tabletpcblogs.com entry where you are commenting on.

What I usually do is if my comment is going to be longer or require linking to other entries I'll usually make a new blog entry and link from there.

Does this help?

I think this is good advice, TDavid.
